Free PDF converters and tools

Choose from thirteen free PDF converters and tools: PDF to Word, Excel, PowerPoint or JPG; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, JPG or HTML to PDF; and focused tools to merge, split and compress PDFs. Most conversions run directly in your browser without uploading the selected file. A PDF is a description of where to draw marks on a page, and that fact explains what each converter can recover. Editable Word or Excel output requires paragraphs, cells and reading order to be inferred from coordinates, while JPG and image-based PowerPoint output can preserve the page's visual appearance without pretending those missing structures still exist.

How this category works

Most of the thirteen PDF tools run entirely inside your browser tab. Files are read into memory, handled by focused JavaScript libraries, and handed back through temporary blob URLs that disappear when the tab closes. PDF.js renders pages, pdf-lib creates documents, SheetJS reads workbooks, and PptxGenJS writes presentations. No queue is joined for those conversions, and ordinary local files are not sent to a third-party conversion service.

PDF to Word remains the server conversion because reconstructing editable paragraphs and tables needs a specialised converter. HTML to PDF sends only the public URL to a guarded fetch endpoint; it blocks local networks, removes scripts and returns a clean reader version rather than executing the remote page. Both pages explain that network step before you act. The remaining PDF and Office converters keep the selected document on the device, including the annotation editor and image exports.

The practical limit on the on-device tools is memory rather than an account policy. A laptop handles more than a phone, and image-heavy PDFs cost several times their compressed file size while being rendered. Every page states the real trade-off: scans need OCR before text extraction, PDF-to-PowerPoint creates visually accurate image slides rather than editable shapes, Office-to-PDF simplifies proprietary formatting, and webpage conversion is a reader layout rather than a pixel-perfect browser print. Those are constraints of the formats, not details hidden in a support article.
