Why these run in the browser

Almost every job on this site is work a browser can already do. Copying page objects between PDFs, re-encoding a JPEG, running a formula, comparing two strings — none of it needs a server, and sending a passport scan or a draft contract to one buys you nothing in return. The single local-file exception is PDF to Word, which needs a full office engine to reconstruct an editable document. HTML to PDF sends only the public URL to a guarded reader endpoint. Both pages say so before processing starts.

The practical consequences are worth knowing. There is no queue and no rate limit, because there is no server deciding who goes next. The tools work offline once the page has loaded, and on a locked-down office network. The limit on file size is your own device’s memory rather than a policy. And each tool page states plainly what it does badly — text-only PDFs barely compress, hair defeats background removal, title case gets McDonald wrong — because those are the questions people actually arrive with.
